Pittsburg, Kansas | Many years ago the extension Ag guys tested firewood for its heat output.
One thing they found is if it was dried to uniform moisture, BY WEIGHT there was little difference in BTU's. Of course most fire wood is sold by volume. So heavier wood by volume had more BTU. Lighter wood in general also burns quicker.
So if a person bought wood for heating by the ton, not so much difference. But buying it by the chord, heavier more dense wood wins.
