central illinois | I agree with Graintrader89 and senodak, Official standards are not followed by most buyers on inbound grain and if they consistantly have worse grades, you should factor it in as a cost of selling to that buyer.
It happens on the export side too. When I traded export grain, one buyer always made a claim for rat infestation on the shipload of wheat, claiming a 3 dollar per ton discount before settleing for 1 dollar per ton. They would include a picture of a dead rat with the claim. The claim was obviously bogus as the dead rat picture was the same picture for several years. I just figured a 1 dollar claim surcharge on wheat to that buyer to cover my costs. | |
