The glass top stove cleaner sold in appliance stores works pretty good on those stoves. The trick is to pay attention and not let stuff boil over onto the hot burners.
I have used a glass top range for many years and I agree they can be a pain sometimes, but after a while, you get used to them and figure out how to get around their shortcomings.
