If you happen to have any endangered or threatened species (either state or federal) in the immediate area, public commentary during community sessions and appealing to the administrative law judge/government body having environmental jurisdiction regarding them can lead to additional environmental study requirements, which can take quite a bit of time and money.
Use this knowledge as you see fit. No guarantee it works, but Kirtland’s Snake here sure threw a wrench in some plans for a while.
