Ducted is far better. But do your research before you buy. Most of the units out there are cheap junk that have NOWHERE near the cfm that is truly needed to work well. Go with a minimum of 8" duct and minimum of 800 cfm. Ideally you want 1000+ cfm. You will spend some coin when you get up into those units though.
