E.Central MN | It sounds like the usual situation where the set screw is down inside a deep tapped or counterbored hole. It might be difficult to get heat on it, let alone try to weld something to it. Left hand drillbits will sometimes put enough pressure on the setscrew to get it to unscrew, otherwise he may have to try something like a carbide endmill, carbide drillbit or use a carbide bit and a die grinder. I've used a Keo combined drill/countersink or center drill on a hardened set screw a couple times, too. Good luck. | |
