| Some of you Detroit Diesel pros may be able to help me with this one .......
At an auction this summer, I bought a 1975 GMC 9500 grain truck with an 8V71 in it. Before I ever drove it home, I let it idle for 20 minutes or so. As I went to leave, I reved it up and it took off wide-open on me. I hadn't driven a 318 in over 40 years, but got a quick refresher in resetting the Emergency Stop!
It seems, that the longer it idles, the greater the chance that it will go into full revs. I'm wondering what might be the possible problem or problems that would cause it to do that? Driving it home went great ..... no problems, and although empty, it picked up speed like expected, and ran real nice at 65 mph.
Any ideas?
