Beresford, SD | Less COC and rotate. Was very heavy corn this year. Be as close to 50/50 as I’ve ever been in my career. 1/2 my corn acres will still be COC. As dry as we were this spring COC (insurance) penciled the best by far. I don’t ever remember not seeing a yield hit from COC, didn’t see it this year at all! Corn crop was fantastic, one farm left but very close to record yields. Due to insane input costs and added acres, 50/50 will provide enough feed given normal production. One change, my home place. Been corn forever! Plans as of now are to cover with crap over the winter and plant forage sorghum for silage. Cash input costs be under $50/acre. Hard to justify soybeans 10 feet away from the feed pile and the farm just needs a break from corn.
