Had the same thing happen with my 1st 4H steer 30 some odd years ago. Ran with a herd of deer for about a month. Couldn't get within 100 yards and he'd bolt. Guys scouting their deer stands for the hunting season ended up pushing him out till he managed to jump in with a neighbor's heifers. Left him in there and picked him up a week later. Stood right next to him no problem. Showed him the following summer. Bought him at a sale and he just didnt know where home was.
As others have suggested, a couple of calm cows, heifers, steers, etc in the corral mite help entice them in. Combined with maybe feeding a bit of grain at same time every day. Once in the routine of coming in then catch him.
