Subject: RE: Old timers drought stories

southern MN
1988 was much worse than the dust bowl of the 30’s up here. 87 was dry here, winter was low snowfall, 88 was very hot and dry to really do us in.

2012 was wet spring, but it never rained after June and was hot, crops didn’t have the best roots from wet early spring, they did ok but sure was hot and dry and lower yields that fall. Humidity levels were unheard of low here.

I moved some machinery in my dirt floor (undisturbed top soil, building moved in on top in the 40s or so?) shed yesterday, where the sun doesn’t shine the dirt was moist enough the tires were damp when move, you could see moisture on surface dirt is darker. I was surprised myself. We have had so wet for 5-6 years, it’s good to have some dry out period. Here.

Crops are pretty dry from the heat, but we have moisture left in this tough soil. For now.

Paul
