North Central Ohio, across the Corn belt !

A fencepost rots most AT groundlevel

In our clay soils we see the MOST rot at 0 to 3-4 inches !!! I feel that is where the most O.M. oxygen and moisture percolation are allowing for maximum Microbial feeding ??? My Long term goal has always been to Move that Active Life zone area Deeper allowing for more massive root development

That has always been a Good Observation to Me, as to where we should place, till in some of our Crop residue for maximum composting, recycling for next seasons plant feeding.

I also like to see 25% or so left on Top for many of the benefits described by the No till advocates Also, so Light minimum, rotational tillage is what we have worked to achieve the past 30 Plus years !
