Is your filter rated for that pressure. It’s uncommon to find ones that are. Caterpillar used to use them a lot but those are the only machines I’ve ever seen with filters on the pressure side of the main pump

I don’t think your pump is going to be happy being gravity fed. Maybe I’m wrong. I suppose there’s a similar surge tank above the pump on most JD tractors. It’s there as a source of oil when charge pump falls behind, so maybe a couple feet of head is enough to open the inlet valves of the piston pump. However, unless the bale bandit is not configurable for open center use, a gear or vane pump would be cheaper and certainly work.
