That pump would have a charge pump pushing oil to it. The excess charge oil would go thru the cooler then back to the tank.
If i was doing it, i would route the oil this way
from tank to gear pump (charge pump),
gear pump to a filter
filter to piston pump
pressure side of piston pump to bandit
excess oil out of piston pump (top port) to cooler along with return oil from bandit(teed together)
cooler to tank
