N FLA | I used to feed hay 30 days a year. Haven't done it in awhile. I used to have more access to winter annuals cover crop. Also used to buy more fertilizer for grass. Probably had less cattle then as well. I do have one herd of 30 I think I only fed 15 rolls of hay this year, but probably 90 bags of range cubes.
It appears pretty easy to say I will feed less hay, and buy more liquid supplement. But I'm not surethat is the best idea. Although cows look fatter from what I see on the other side of the fence.
My friend is in central Alabama and his winter annuals are much more productive than mine. We just burn up here on the sand. Are you using winter annuals?
I can't see any way that sorghum Sudan would address and "I'm going to quit hay" situation. In fact I think it will raise your feed costs, but every situation is different.
