Here was my project last winter. 06' Pete with a C15 MXS that I rebuilt (I pulled engine and sent it out of house) had 16:1 pistons put in, singled and deleted IVA's and set at 625. 50psi is normal on an Acert with twins. These engines can handle power but in your case if it still has the stock pistons that are 18:1, I would absolutely not delete the IVA's. You will be getting familiar with replacing head gaskets. I'm very surprised your Cat guy didn't say anything. I would think that with high comp pistons, a hot tune, and no IVA's that your cylinder pressures are off the charts. I'm no engine builder though. Oh, and put a pyro in that thing!
I agree with Trucker 1. If you still have the stock 18:1 pistons in it, don't delete the IVA's. Your cylinder pressure will be too high for headgaskets to last.
I don't blame anyone for deleting IVA's, and single turboing those Acert engines. But if you want the headgaskets to last, you need the older 16:1 pistons.
625 flywheel hp will not hurt a C15 CAT. You could have 625 hp at the wheels, and not hurt it at all if you have the engine set up correctly. Trust me, there are C15 engines out there with a good bit more hp to the ground than that!!
We live close to 2 good independent Cat shops. Neither one of them will recommend deleting IVA's without going to the 16:1 pistons. But neither one has any problem with running 625ish hp to the ground if you set your C15 up correctly. They tune C15 engines to higher hp than that very regularly, but they both say 625 hp to the ground is a good number for durability.
We have a 6NZ with 635ish to the ground. It will push around 45 psi boost with a single turbo. But 6NZ engines used the 16:1 pistons, so no issues there.
Do for sure put a pyro in it. We are running the stage 1 PDI tune in ours, and it normally doesn't run much over 800° F on any hill. Rare to see 900. The pyro sensor is post turbo in this case. Post turbo is fine, just keep it as close to the turbo as possible.
Enjoy your C15!! Set up correctly, they are still my no.1 pick for an older engine.
