Lastly my wife is on the thin side, me, built more like a lot of older farmers, all this low cal./ low fat maybe is ok but if you eat twice as much does it matter. A lot more about portion size . Years ago a fast food hamburger, fries & drink was same size as what 'kids meals' are now.

actually it is not about portion size its more about calorie density, to feel full I eat a pound of meat for supper with some black beans or chick peas, example, I use 93% lean hamburger, thin sliced cheese, and not alot of condiments. if i used higher calorie meat and baked beans with mayo, ketchup and more cheese my calorie count would be substantially higher to feel full. I eat no vegetables, can't stand them but instead eat more legumes, protein makes you feel full, the only reason i look at labels is to see serving size/calories. some labels are extremely misleading.

I am not on a low carb diet, I eat what i like and able to maintain, i just don't eat much sugar or high calorie dense foods. If you feel full there is a less chance you will pick up that bag of chips or candy bar later in the evening.

one last comment, alot of people think they need to starve their selves to lose weight, they eat lettuce salads and stay with it awhile, don't get enough protein so lose muscle too, then they switch back to the "good stuff and gain even more fat. lifestyle change, how long can you eat salad?
