Pittsburg, Kansas

Yes, we look for no added sugar and foods low in carbohydrates. High fat is good if it is animal fat.

High fat and high carbohydrates together is a good way to gain weight. High fat and low carbohydrate is how I lost 100 pounds. By keeping the carbohydrates low I am able to eat all I want and not get fat. Usually about 3/4 to 1 pound of meat per meal (or equivalent in eggs) with two meals a day.

So our label reading is mostly to keep things out of our diet rather than what we want in it. Things like whole meat, eggs and low carbohydrate vegetables, which consists most of our diet, don't have nutrition labels. But things processed like bacon, sausage we do look for low sugar content.
