Universal basic income is a horrible idea. It will incentivize non- productivity. It will also cause all other costs associated with daily living to rise because companies will know everybody has more disposable guaranteed income, and they'll want a piece of the pie.
Id guess maybe 90% of poor people are poor because of poor decision making (choices or abilities?). Throwing more money at them will only increase impulse buying and buying junk they don't need; tattoos, booze, big screen TV's etc. UBI doesn't address the root of the problem, it only seeks to medicate the symptoms.
