southern MN | Dad put in three lines of tile 120 feet apart to drain a peat bog I farm. He had to go shallow because the main going through was shallow. Obviously this was inadequate, it allowed us to farm the wet hole, but it didn’t make it productive.
Decade ago I and a neighbor ran a bigger, deeper main through this area, and off that we split dads laterals in that wet area. So now I have laterals every 60 feet, every other one is shallow or deep.
That is really neat, the shallow drains a bit faster, the deeper tile pull out a lot more water to make room for roots and for the next heavy rain. Really neat, but not typically practical to set up that way normally.
This spot is so low when the ditch is full the tile run backwards into the field, as well as a fairly steep grade uphill from it feeds it heavy, so the ground needs very chance it can get to dry out.
