I used to be an engineer for Caterpillar Engines. We always said "bad fuel is worse than no fuel" and "no oil is worse than bad oil". If you have dirt fuel going to your fuel injector, it will cause wear. You are better off having no fuel and use the electric fuel pump to prime. For oil, it is the opposite. The worst thing you can have is no oil in the bearings. Always prefill oil filters. NEVER prefill FUEL filters.
