Bought an older home where strange noises of someone walking down the third floor and second floor steps , banging on walls, door knobs turning on there own. Talked to the previous renters said yes it happened quite frequently to them. They had a nickname for the noises. FWIW Seven years into ownership redid the roof and found an old pair of leather work shoes hanging in the point of the roof. Disposed of them immediately and haven’t heard a peep since.
