Pierce county WI | You are right as far as negative headlines. The trade is soooo negative. Agtalk is incredibly bearish this year it's just sickening. First we were going to have too many acres. Well, the acres cut. Then when the acres went down it was there's no demand. Ethanol has been climbing, and if you factor the decrease in stocks, were almost in great territory. As a matter of fact a few years ago the blend would be bullish. Then throw in exports as of late and demand is good. Then it was the weather. I jumped in the semi for a few weeks. It was hot and dry in lots of places right in the middle of pollination. We're 300+ gdus ahead of normal here. Then we got some rain in places and everyone decided it was good now. Totally forgetting heat and rapid development and the expanding drought monitor. The cool forecast looks like 4 days, then here we go back to above average. Agtalk is bearish and the reason people stay quiet is because you are going to get the boots put to you if you say anything different.
Our area has changed greatly in my lifetime. I'd say we have 5-10% of the dairy farms we had when I was a kid. We have people moving out from the cities like crazy now. There's a good horse hay market, but you earn every dollar you make doing that. We have moved to row crops because we have decent soil and the Mississippi River. Things in agriculture change. Always have. | |
