I take care of 4 different setups. 12”-24”. Not one of them has cement floors or rock. If pumps are shut off for long periods of time, the water is dirty for a bit. I’d say most of the pumps are 1-2’ of the bottom of the ditch. Most of the areas happen to be heavy clay subsoil and the silt acts like slop on top of the clay. It will eventually wear the prop blades down but might take 20 years. Most of them are built into or sitting on structures hanging in the water. What brand of pump? I’ve been working with Knip welding from demotte Indiana on mine.
I bought from Gator pumps out of Texas
Already had a PTO 16" Gator pump so I contacted them-- didn't know about Knip welding
Talked to Castill pumps and a couple others Gator was much cheaper and pretty easy to work with
I ended up with a 40 Hp 12" rated at 7-8,000 a min for the 100 acre field
And bought a 10 Hp single phase for a 25 acre area
I am excited to get them in bought this farm last year had some little 2 hp tile only pumps
I bought the PTO pump to help out and needed it often last year tired of hauling fuel and fighting everything associated with tractor pumps
It will be a dream to set up auto with a float but has been a long 4 days already had to up grade electric, fighting mud --installing 1800 feet of wire -- start with electric phase converter and controls tomorrow and will need to dig the lagoon
Then start on the 10 Hp one
But it will be worth it --I'm a virgin with dewatering pumps learning on the go and help from NAT
