Subject: Big dewatering pump question

Holland, Indiana (SW IN)
Installing this 12" water pump --never did a vertical pump before
Do I need to put a layer of rock in the floor so churning water doesn't "eat" away at the ground below the pump--this ground is not very "loose"
FWIW the pit is 12' below ground level -pump is about 20' long-I plan on a 1/3 acre lagoon 8' deep for water holding

Help appreciated --I think I'll have to worry about silt more than eating --but unsure

Dan
