Greene/Orange/Louisa/Albemarle/Madison county Virg
Got a email today (FSA newsletter) said guarantee loan limit was 1.75 million.
If that won't get you started nothing will.
I'd skip college, waste of time in my opinion.
You get educated with your own checkbook, that's more valuable than a degree.
It always amazes me the people who push college, I've never had a bank ask to see my degree. They want cash flow and collateral.
You will probably get your best education listening to your grandfather.
In my opinion most college professors couldn't shut an umbrella, same for financial advisers. If I don't trust myself to make good decisions with my money, why would I trust a stranger.
If your near any small city the whole farm to table thing is huge. I'm in commercial ag too deep to change paths, but if I was getting started now I'd put up several greenhouses and sell to the soccer moms. Have a corn maze, grass fed beef, etc. If your in the middle of nowhere probably won't work, but land prices should be cheaper.
As another poster said, 100 acres of vegetables you could do it.
Just my 2 cents....
Best of luck to you
