Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | Jon, correct me if I’m wrong. I thought I was told way back 10 years or so the ethanol ramp up was brought about for two reasons. The defense department wanted to have a reliable source of fuel available just in case we couldn’t protect our supply of crude oil from the Middle East. This was before the ramp up in oil production here in the US. The other reason was our refineries were at maximum production and no one wanted to build an oil refinery in their backyard so ethanol “refineries “ were built. Any truth to those two ideas? If the defense department wanted ethanol as a back up source of fuel you would think they would be behind the scenes wanting to keep it.
It’s just a shame that corporate oil companies think they have to have it all to themselves and can’t let the ethanol industry have a share of the fuel pie for the benefit of the people and of this country. |
