Like others have said, I'd go to him and explain that since it is well past the notification date you already have a crop plan in place and the inputs purchased. You'd really like to go ahead and farm it this season and make a smooth transition after harvest.
Something I'm not sure about is him and his son want to farm his ground Does the son farm now or is he starting out? If he is starting out your best move would be to offer to work with him. You might teach him a few things, you might learn something yourself. I hear a lot of griping about organic farming on here. Remember 2 things: The customer wants it and there are folks doing it. It just takes more management and effort. Locally corn for next January delivery is around $.40 under CBOT. I just got a bid for non-GMO of $.0512 under CBOT. Imagine what certified organic would sell for. |
