NE, KS | This may not apply to the rest of the corn belt, but here we have a tendency to be dry in July and then the rain starts again in August. So we have been planting irrigated soybeans early and our dry-land a little latter. The attached pic is a summary of this years tests. So Wyatts is a dry-land field that we did 16 random replicated strips on (4 passes on each planting date, 4 different plant dates) we used two different beans, a 4.0 and a 3.1 (soybean APH on this field is 60bu/ac) Kurt's is a irrigated field, however due to the 18 month drought we were in our water supply was limited to 2.5'. In July I pumped 2 - .75 in passes and was saving the last inch for August. We did the same layout except we only did only 2 replications
Edit to add: In summary this year was an extreme example as the beans were pretty much dead in July and then we had 6 in of rain in August. Also there was 48 strips harvested, all weighed with a certified weight wagon
