Depends on where you are. Fescue is the primary pasture forage here. They do fine on it, but endophyte infected fescue can be a problem. Many producers feed mineral with CTC to offset the effects of the endophyte or try to dillute with legumes.
Digging up a post from months ago. Thanks to government regulations you can't buy mineral with CTC anymore unless you have a prescription from your vet Our summer pasture is fescue and we put out mineral with CTC in it.. Our vet thinks that regulation is bogus because he can't prescribe CTC mineral because the label does not cover the intended use. Unless you bought up a good supply of it before last year or have a vet willing to risk prescribing it to you just have to hope they have good genetics to deal with some heat stress that comes with grazing fescue. |
