Subject: RE: depreciation/appreciation in cattle

Southwest OK

Last year my steers weighed 450at weaning. Average age of 180 days. Weaned for 30 days and sold at a local barn. $850 a hd after commission Same class of heifers as mine sold that Day would have brought 650 a head.

Heifers were A.I.'d and bulls put in for 30 days 75% conception left me with Feeder heifers that were sold for $1100.(cash flow) appreciation of $450. At preg check the remainder had a conservative value of $1500. Appreciation of $850.

5 year old bred cows were sold for $1700.

Open cows were exposed for 60 days and marketed as rebreeds when 5-6 months bred. Sold for $1500 appreciation of $850

95% conception on those. Opens brought $775
Appreciation of $125 over selling in the fall when open for the first time

I realize this program isn't for everyone, who would buy my cows if it were? It suits my environment and my temperament.
