In my opinion, you were lucky he even showed up to "fix" it.
If you have his name and address, fix it right, send him a bill with an explanation that his fix did not meet postal code (proper height, ect). Since he is such an upstanding citizen, I'm sure that he will be glad to pay to have it done right.....
