sw ontario
All the "big" grocery chains have asked whole salers for cuts ---mostly a 1-1.5% decrease---our packer just expects to lose money every spring and then make it up over summer/fall----meat mkt. is a lot erractic than grains---so far this yr. mkt. returns have vareied on weekly basis by $40 hog.....fwiw -growing corn here costs around $400 acre for inputs/machinery + your land cost-expected yield 170....wheat is toughest as now trading just below $5 cad for July pkp. so if it stays there it will take around 60 bu. to cover inputs and machinery before land costs---last yr. we got around $6 cad and Ontario average was about 95 bu. acre
