Mountain West | Ask the irrigators: they are pretty sensitive as to which engine gets the best fuel economy.
The Deutz air cooled was usually considered #1. I guess they quit making it because it couldn't meet modern emission standards. Seems wrong on some level, especially to lose it for irrigation, where the engine is usually out in the middle of nowhere and the NOx can be broken down by sunshine before some poor soul has to breathe it. Meanwhile, less CO2 would be pumped out for the same work.
