Leesburg, Ohio | According to the local dealer, our S2, which we got in May or June this year (we used their demo until ours came in), needed the updated software to run the Baseline.
I'm still not sure what was going on with the first pass with the Baseline unit yesterday...it was on a pretty steep hill (a "C" slope) and the ground was greasy on top (first time for that all summer!) In thinking about it for a while, I attribute most of that initial foot or so offline to the slick spot on the hill preventing the tractor from steering as aggresively as it normally would. The rest of the time I was in it (limited) it seemed to be right on, or at most about 2" off. I think it will work great for strip till. It might be interesting to try it for side-dressing 28% next summer.
Regarding the terrain compensation of AgLeader: Having used one for a year without T2, and then a year (almost) with T2, I would highly recommend T2. The difference is night and day when on rolling ground, or going thru waterways or terraces. It would get totally lost every time without T2, now it tracks right thru just about any type of terrain. I think it tracks better on level ground as well, but can't quantify that.
Comparing T2 to the Outback S2 unit (which has no terrain comp yet) I would say the Outback is much, much better on hills than the EZsteer was without T2, maybe not quite as good as the EZsteer is with T2 on hills. Agleader with T2 and Outback S2 performance on fairly level ground appear to be about equal. As I have said before, tho, the Outback seems to drift a bit less (apparently none with the Baseline) and seems to aquire the line faster than the AL. I still like the portability of the AL. How's that for straddling the fence?
