Northern Illinois | I realize it does not seem fair but look at it this way. Lets just say for the sake of argument that a farm is 640 acres.
What if grandpa had given the land to your father because he was the working operator so the farm would continue like you seem to be suggesting should have happened. Now fast forward to none of your fathers children farming ( I realize you are but what if you were not ) Your father and mother had 2 children. Upon the death of your parents you and your sibling would become multi millionaires and your cousins would not.
As others have said the land and the farming operation need to be seperate and a fair (not the highest rent in the county) needs to be paid to the land. That way your father would farm the land and receive the rent proceeds of his 1/3 ownership. | |
