S Illinois
USDA has to do estimates if everyone is not in the FSA programs. Count me as one who would rather have the USDA put out numbers rather than just Informa or other pay for play type of reporting services that may have other motives to print their own slant on the numbers. I lay the fault of being overzealous with the numbers at traders feet. This idea that USDA numbers are anything more that estimates seems to be lost on them. This idea that 50mil bushels found or lost should move the market as much as it does is not a fault of USDA but rather the traders who think that anyone would be able to accurately estimate production within 0.5%.
