In my area I would say it is not the # of acres you farm that earn you the BTO label but the size of your ego/attitude. We have one part time farmer / real estate agent that has earned the label well. This guy farms about 200 acres has 1 450hp tractor 1 250hp tractor and a 16 row planter. I don't care what he wants to run for equipment but when he drives around trying to rent land and calling the mto on the neighbors. It gets old in a hurry. This guy will try to demand his equipment is fixed first and try to pass everyone in line at the elevator. So in our area it is not the large farmer who is the ---hole its this guy.
