Many farmers in ND and MN are learning this same thing. For decades they were told your K level is high based on the PPM.
You hit that spot on. Everybody looks at the little bar graph showing the level of nutrients on a soil test. Everybody sees the bar for potassium go off the end of the chart and must automatically dismiss it as a need when fertilizing because very few ever apply potash. I wonder if the only reason the local coop carries potash is because there is growing interest in adding chloride to the fertilizer profile. The local coop said nobody runs a base saturation test, just the bare bones. The only reason I began questioning things is because the Hefty brothers did a show talking about base saturation and how that is what you need to look at for K and not ppm or lbs/acre. |
