Little River, TX
& I just thought my soils were strange, diffacult, and unique with challanges that few understood.

HERE we have a calcareous soil with an 8 pH, 8,000 ppm Ca PLUS 6% free lime. Your problems sound strange to me, but obviously you are not alone.
I happen to like ammonium sulfate for top dressing a grass hay. It provides the N as well as needed S.
For alfalfa I like to include some K-Mag for it's sulfur as well as the potassium.
HERE Magnesium is not an issue. Not too much nor too little, but just right.
