East central Iowa, Camanche, Iowa
I started out with Mg's in the 30's in 1985 and over the years I have applied high cal lime to try to pull the Mg down. and raise the Ca. I did not see a significant drop in my Mg levels until I started applying gypsum at 1 ton / acre about every three years. My Mg's are now in the low 20's and my Ca is in the 65+ range. I really feel the S in the gypsum helped bring down the Mg levels. Another benefit of the gypsum was the change in the soil texture. A much better environment to notil into.
