Oregon | That's neat! Beautiful day for sure. Nice farmstead. Cool old tractor "leaning into it". Made me remember my childhood. My dad raised hogs when I was little. He had a hammer mill that looked exactly like yours set up in his granary. It blew directly into his stationary feed mixer. I remember being out with him when he was grinding feed every week. The belt ran right about eye level to me then. I always wanted to touch it but I know I would've got my butt warmed if I dared to. Bucket after bucket from the grain bin into the mill. He raised oats, barley, wheat and alflafa to grind for his hogs. He used a John Deere A to grind feed. It was a Korean War era tractor with a water pump and aluminum radiator...which I guess never cooled as good as the older copper ones. He used to take the radiator cap off and let a garden hose run at a steady trickle into it to keep it cool on the hammer mill. The hammer mill made that A snort. I can almost still hear it popping away. |
