Subject: Re: advice from notillers

west Nebraska northeast Colorado
In thinking about no-till fields in general, if the major effects of no-till on soil particle agregation, organic matter accumulation, etc. are in the surface 2-3 in., (as a lot of research indicates) it would seem that vertical tillage would be no different than tillage with a disc. They are both disturbing this top 2-3 in. agressively. Would the only advantage of vertical tillage be that it leaves more residue on top?
