Subject: Re: Increasing bean yields

Juneau, WI
Beans we planted between April 18th and May 8th all ran very close to 57 bu. We had a few beans we planted June 10th to 15th and they ran 35 bu. We start planting beans before corn. We use the same planter and if conditions are not quite fit for corn we will switch back to beans. Calendar seems more important than conditions to some extent for beans for us. We have been running 2.3 to 1.9 maturity beans and will be planting some 2.5s next year. Beans seem to love strip till compared to no till. A little sulfur seems to help. Also seem to have better yields since we've kept beans out of the rotation longer. We try not to plant beans more than once every 3-4 years.
