Yes, the driver of the pickup making the pass of other cars on this E-W narrow 2 lane road would likely have been looking directly into the rising sun as he pulled his truck into the oncoming lane to pass. John lived along this same road.

It is unlikely the east bound truck driver could really see about anything looking into the sun.  He pulled out to pass right in front of west bound John and there was a head on collision between a pickup truck and a bicyclist riding who was riding on the correct side of the road. I see from the article that the pickup driver was ticketed for improper passing.

And John is dead.
