North Central, NC | Years of tobacco farming on the rolling ground in my neck of the woods has left my soil in the woods and creek bottoms. If you werent doing pan work every other year, it was not recovered. Only takes a little while until your unable 2 get it back. Years of bad practices has left some of my land better suited for growing pines instead of crops. I now only till if im picking up land that has been open. Planted a small field this year in soybeans on some land that had tobacco on it in the years past and within two months there are several gullies in the steeper end of the field and visible topsoil on top of the ground. This is why I usually planted rye and fescue in the fall to hold the soil and then notill come spring. Not telling anyone what to do nor trying to criticize someone elses farming practices but on my hel "here" full tillage comes along with a pan work bill
