SW Iowa | Would not setting an upper limit in ethol blending, if under what is out there now, necessitate something else to be blended to raise octane ratings to a burnable level--right?
Is there some secrete, cheap, and readily avail product out there the oil co's could use to substitute for the ethol to blend up their crude? Granted, the refineries could further refine the crude product to get to octane levels that would qualify as motor fuel, but then wouldn't they be in trouble with the EPA and clean air act without additions of some oxygenate? Requiring amending the Clean Air Act? And, wouldn't further refining create more costs in a gallon of gas?
I see no political win in messing with the limits. Looks to me the easiest thing would be to continue printing even more money, forcing the banks to loan it out to new businesses and old business expansion trying to stimulate jobs and wage income to increase, fast.
