Blue Earth, MN
In the emerged corn pic, it looks very thick. Or am I not seeing the issue?

We strip till a lot of ground and have seen some emergence issues here. This is what I think.

We have a warmer zone surrounded by cold soil. This is one strike compared to conventional tillage.

If there is any cold and wet weather within 48 hours of planting, the strip till will struggle more. This is 2 strikes.

If it is strip till corn on corn and the corn kernel is subjected to the cold and wet weather within 48 hours of planting this is the third strike.

Throw in large round seed, seed quality, variety cold germ issues, lack of seed to soil contact, and/or a heavy pounding rain within 24 hours of planting...stands can get thin in a hurry.

For some reason this year, the penalty for not being in the strip was huge. I would have thought with our drier soil and warmer than normal spring we could have no tilled and been in great shape.
