southern MN | Back when that insurance was required years ago, turned out the coverge didn't work at all like that. There was 85% of 72% minus 15%, or some yadda yadda junk so the coverage barely woulda paid back 2x the premium if I'd have harvested zero. That was a bad year, I lost 50% of some of my crops, and the insurance was still far from kicking in.
Haven't carried any crop insurance since that joke. Why waste the buck or 5 an acre?
As the original poster, I'm a one man band, small acres, got my costs in hand and will be ok if the bottom falls out for a year. Also even in tough years, tend to get a crop around here - my disaster year with the joke of an insurance was the real wet one in early 90's.
