Texas/New Mexico Stateline | I guess I don't see the relevance of the translation. The message is still when we turn from God intentionally, we fall from His presence, and therefore do not have access to His steadfastness, secure position, saving grace, etc. Do you want to be living in such a way your position is considered insecure? Un-steadfast? I sure don't. That does not instill any kind of assurance to me.
Speaking of different translations I like the NIV for the Heb. 3:14 14We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
We can have it "at first" but it can slip away if we let it. To share glory with Christ we must hold firmly to the end. The logic seems really clear here that if we don'thold fast until the end we won't share in His glory. It is like grabbing a lifeline.
Trying to make excuses for people that have fallen away later in life does not change the logic of the Gospel. We have to continually "walk in the light" once we are saved. If we intentionally turn from that light and walk in darkness Jesus's blood no longer cleanses us. 1 Jn. 1.
