There were some comments in my first calf of the season thread below about the "huge" "90 lb" Hereford calf. I estimated this heifer calf's weight at 75 lb. Looking her over closely today, I feel her birthweight is no more than 70 lb. And very typical of what I have been getting from my Huth bulls. Here's another picture from today. Her dam has been at her side all day and didn't even come to the corral for the evening-grain/calve-in-daytime treat. She is turning into a very good mama. I really think not messing with them and getting my scent all over the calf (even though I did shower!) in the first day or two helps. Here's a picture of yesterdays first calf from this afternoon at just about 24 hours old. Definitely not more than 70 lb. Jim at Dawn
